As your neighborhood Security Chair, I attended the quarterly NPO meeting last month. There are a number of very pro‐active programs that the Dallas Police Department are engaged in that you should know about.
Plain Cloths Deployment Unit
This unit conducts surveillance of areas and of individuals suspected of committing crimes. They observe and monitor targeted individuals and areas. They also stake out “bait cars” and “bait bicycles” in hopes of catching those to commit the break‐ins and thefts.
K9 Unit
DPD had 11 dogs that work city‐wide and ϐive more that work exclusively at the airport. The dogs track and find hiding suspects. For the most part, the dogs are German Shepherds from Europe that receive special training and are assigned to one handler who works and cares for the dog exclusively.
Operation ID
It helps to have your property marked with your driver’s license number in the event that it gets stolen. You will have a greater chance of recovering the property. DPD has a unit that will come to your home and mark selected property with indelible markers.
